By: Sheila McCrea - Monday, March 14, 2022

NOBLE COUNTY, IN - One person has died following a Friday morning crash involving a vehicle and a school bus.

Noble County Communications was notified about a crash which occurred on County Road 500 East in front of the residence located at 3808 North 500 East. The call came at approximately 6:46 AM Friday morning.

The crash involved a Ford Escape and a Central Noble School Corporation bus. The school bus had yet to pick up any students and the driver of the bus was the sole occupant.

Reports indicate Ruth Hoover, age 51 of Albion, was the driver of the Ford Escape and Matthew Knepper, 41 of Kendallville, was the driver of the school bus.

Hoover was pronounced dead at the scene.

Knepper was checked at the scene for any potential injuries.

The investigation revealed that the Ford Escape being driven by Hoover was traveling north on County Road 500 East and as it crested a hill, lost control of her vehicle, going left of center, and striking the south bound school bus head on.

Authorities say vehicle speed for conditions along with the roads being snow covered with a layer of ice underneath were contributing factors resulting in the crash.

Assisting the Noble County Sheriff Department was the Indiana State Police, Kendallville Fire Department, Albion Fire Department, Parkview Noble EMS, and the Noble County Coroner’s Office.
