SHIPSHEWANA, IN - A 4-year-old male has died as a result of injuries sustained while under care of Dylan Diericx of IA.
On August 19th, 2021, officers from the Shipshewana Police Department and LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a child with injuries at the Livestock Auction Barn in Shipshewana. According to police reports, initial investigation showed that the 4-year-old had fallen from the driver’s area of a semi-tractor on Monday of that same week. This resulted in the juvenile sustaining injuries to his face and side of his head.
Through further investigation it was discovered that Diericx has been the only caregiver for the child since August 15th, 2021 and that the juvenile had been subjected to multiple incidents where he sustained serious injuries all over his body. Diericx had failed to get proper medical attention for the 4-year-old in a timely manner. The juvenile was airlifted to Parkview Regional Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. On August 22nd, 2021 the juvenile died as a result of his injuries.
The matter is still under investigation by the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police and the Shipshewana Police Department. Diericx was arrested and booked into the LaGrange County Jail. Additional charges are possible and other jurisdictions are likely to be involved.
