AquaBounty Plans Put on Hold in Northwest Ohio
By: Sheila McCrea - Tuesday, August 31, 2021

PIONEER, OH - A plan for a company to start raising and processing genetically engineered salmon at a Pioneer, Ohio location has been put on hold.

Williams County Commissioners have suspended AquaBounty Technology’s environmental review process, as well as the release of funds, pending receipt of permits from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

AquaBounty is planning a $200 million investment in Pioneer to create a nearly 500-thousand square foot facility. They plan to use the site to raise and process genetically engineered salmon.

Supporters of the facility say it’s not a major issue.
