By: Mike Stiles - Monday, August 30, 2021

UNDATED – State Senator Kim LaSata got a chance to see first hand the devastation around St. Joseph County from the August 11 and August 12 storms.

LaSata joined local leaders and emergency management officials Thursday on a tour of the county as they continued their work to determine the scope of the damage, and where resources can be used most efficiently.

LaSata says she was driving home from St. Joseph County on August 11 when the storms hit, and realized it was going to be bad. The State Senator drafted a request to Governor Gretchen Whitmer to declare a state of emergency for the area. Whitmer did grant the request for St. Joseph, Branch and Hillsdale Counties, making additional financial resources available from the State to help area families recover.

LaSata thanked Sherman Township Supervisor Steve wolf and Erin Goff, the St. Joseph County Emergency Management Director for hosting the tour. She also thanked the homeowners for letting them survey their property and speak to them.
