Driver Injured After Falling Asleep

DEKALB COUNTY, IN - The driver of a crossover SUV was injured after authorities she fell asleep at the wheel, allowing the vehicle to go airborne and then crash into an embankment.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department says fire rescue units from Butler and Concord were called to the 6300 block of State Road 8 Thursday morning. First units on the scene found the driver, 31-year-old Kjia Woodcox, with injuries to her chest, stomach, wrist and hand.

The Mazda CX5 had been travelling west when it veered into a field, lifted off the ground and came to rest on the far side of the embankment.

Woodcox was taken to an area hospital for examination and treatment.
