JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP - A police pursuit led to the arrest of two individuals on breaking and entering charges.

The Cass County Sheriff's Department reports that the Edwardsburg Police Department noticed a suspicious looking van towing a golf cart on M-62 near Oil City Road just after 2 AM Monday. The suspect vehicle drove off with the police officer in pursuit. The golf cart crashed, but the van continued on until it crashed into a trailer at Eagle Lake Estates.

The man who was driving the van and his female passenger got out and ran away. The man was found in a shed 100 yards away from the vehicle. The woman was also found a short time later. A male subject who was on the golf cart as it was being towed was located by Cass County K-9 Officer Faust. Deputies determined the golf cart and other items were stolen from a barn in the 28,000 block of Dunning Street. The 49 year old driver of the van and the 36 year old rider of the golf cart were both arrested for larceny from a building and several other charges. Officers are requesting charges for the 35 year old female passenger in the van.

The suspects are being held in the Cass County Jail. Assisting deputies were the Edwardsburg Fire Department, the Cassopolis Police Department and the Edwardsburg Ambulance. The case remains under investigation.
