STURGIS, MI – A tip about a man storing a female’s body inside his apartment led Sturgis Police to the 200 block of North Maple Street Wednesday night.

Officers made contact with the 35-year-old man who consented to a search of the residence. What they found prompted the activation of the St. Joseph County Major Crimes Task Force and the execution of a search warrant.

Sturgis Police say the victim had not been reported missing.

Charges of Open Murder, Dismemberment of a corpse, and failure to report a death will be filed against the man, who was taken into custody.
