The Indiana Department of Transportation announced the launch of the Trucks Park Here system.
INDOT said truck drivers consistently have difficulty trying to find areas to rest safely. Drivers who have not found parking spots before reaching their hours of service limits often are forced to park illegally or unsafely on the shoulders of highways,on and off ramps, or at abandoned facilities.
Truck Park Here is a multi-state regional effort. The plan hopes to make make interstate travel safer by creating a network of safe, convenient parking areas for truckers. It will share real-time parking availability with drivers through messaging and smartphone applications, and traveler information websites.
