Three Injured In Weekend Crash Near Hamilton

HAMILTON, IN - Three people were injured following a Saturday afternoon crash involving a motorcycle and a car near Hamilton.

Just before 2 PM Saturday afternoon Deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of State Road 1 and County Road 500 South near Hamilton on a report of a two vehicle accident. It was reported that the crash involved a passenger car and a motorcycle with injuries.

An initial crash investigation revealed a black 2003 Ford Taurus, driven by 71 year old Frankie Handshoe of Hamilton, was eastbound on County Road 500 South at the intersection of 1 when he pulled out into the path of a southbound motorcycle after having stopped at the stop sign.

The motorcycle was a red 2009 Harley-Davidson being operated by 51 year old John King of Garrett. King was unable to avoid the vehicle and struck the driver's side.

King was treated on scene and then transported to Parkview Regional Hospital in Ft Wayne for further treatment of his injuries. He was in serious, but stable condition.

Handshoe and his passenger, 49 year old Georgie Teegardin of Hamilton, where both treated at the scene and then transported to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital for further treatment of injuries. They were both sent in stable condition.

King was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Handshoe and Teegardin were both wearing seatbelts.
