HAMILTON, IN - three people were injured following a Saturday afternoon crash involving a motorcycle and a car near Hamilton.

Just before 2 PM Saturday afternoon Deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of State Road 1 and County Road 500 South in Steuben County's rural Otsego Township on a report of a two vehicle accident received by Steuben County 911. It was reported that the crash involved a passenger car and a motorcycle with injuries.

Responding units arrived on the scene and initial crash investigation indicated a black 2003 Ford Taurus driven by 71 year old Frankie Handshoe of Hamilton Indiana, was eastbound on County Road 500 South at the intersection of 1 when Handshoe pulled out into the path of a southbound motorcycle after having stopped at the stop sign.

The motorcycle was a red 2009 Harley-Davidson being operated by 51 year old John King of Garrett Indiana. King was unable to avoid the 2003 Ford and King struck the driver's side of the Ford Taurus.

King was treated on scene and then transported to Parkview Regional Hospital in Ft Wayne for further treatment of his injuries. He was in serious, but stable condition.

Handshoe and his passenger, 49 year old Georgie Teegardin of Hamilton Indiana, where both treated at the scene and then transported to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital for further treatment of injuries in stable condition.

King was not wearing helmet at the time of the crash. Handshoe and Teegardin were both wearing seatbelts.

Neither alcohol nor speed are believed to be a factor in the crash.

The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.

Assisting the Sheriff's Office at the scene were Angola Police, Hamilton Police, Hamilton Fire Rescue, and Steuben County EMS.
