Woman Drove Into Train Car

BUTLER, IN – A truck versus a train crash late Sunday night has left a woman with serious injuries.

Authorities say it happened just before 10 PM near Butler.

A train conductor told an investigator with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Depart a Chevy Silverado was stopped at the railroad tracks in the 4300 block of County Road 61 when a train was moving through the area. The conductor said he heard the engine rev on the truck, saw it drive around the crossing gate, and crash into the train car he was standing on.

The driver of the truck, identified as 55-year-old Carolyn Honaker of Kendallville, was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.

The train was reportedly moving at 7 mph at the time of the crash.

Police believe alcohol is a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

Assisting the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department at the scene was the Butler Police Department, Parkview EMS, Butler Fire Department, Norfolk & Southern Police, and C. Noels Auto.
