ELKLHART – One person was injured in a shooting incident in the City of Elkhart.

At 3:43 AM Thursday the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office received a report of a man who was shot outside of a residence in the 57,000 block of Woodrow Street.

Witnesses reported that a silver passenger car had left the scene of the shooting. As deputies were arriving at the house, officers with the Elkhart Police Department located a silver passenger car traveling north on Nappanee Street at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused, and eventually came to the 56,000 block of Spruce Lane. The driver ran into a house, locking himself inside and refusing to come out.

Officers spoke with the man, identified as 48 year old Marcus Love, and eventually he came out of the house and was taken into custody. Love is being held in the Elkhart County Jail on three outstanding warrants and a potential charge of resisting law enforcement. Love was at the house on Woodrow Street, but it's still not known if he was involved in the shooting or not.

The preliminary investigation indicates that 52 year old Andres Howard of Elkhart was shot inside the house. He was taken to Elkhart General Hospital where he was conscious and alert. Several people have been detained and are being interviewed by officers.
