LAGRANGE – A familiar face has been selected to fill a seat on the LaGrange County Commission.
Monday night, the LaGrange County Republican Party held a caucus and chose Peter Cook to fill the open South District seat on the Commission. Cook won the seat on the first round of voting. He was one of four individuals looking to fill the seat on the Commission. The other individuals were Emily Harris, Robert Frost and Jim Hockemeyer.
Cook has been on the County Council for over 10 years and has been the Council President for the last five years. He will serve the final four years of former Commissioner Larry Miller's term on the County Commission. Miller was re-elected to the Commission in November 2020 and was once again chosen to be Commission President. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 in November and taken to a Fort Wayne hospital where he spent 58 days until he was released after the first of the year. He passed away in January.
Cook will be at the Commission's next meeting, which is scheduled for February 15. The LaGrange County Republican Party will hold another caucus soon to fill Cook's position on the Council. If anyone is interested in applying for that position, they can contact Pat Brown, Chairman of the LaGrange County Republican Party.
