THREE RIVERS – Starting November 18, the St. Joseph County Commission
On Aging will not be offering any group activities at their two enrichment centers. This is being done to comply with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' Epidemic Order.
COA Executive Director Tim Stoll says they will remain open for single household exercise and computer use; purchasing restaurant tickets; medical loan closet needs; membership renewals and for Medicaid/Medicare enrollment assistance.
In addition the COA's community based support services such as Meals On Wheels will continue to serve meals to the home bound seniors of St Joseph County. The COA aides will also continue to help seniors in their homes.
Stoll says the COA will continue to offer lunches to go. If you would like a lunch to go, please call the COA 48 hours in advance at 269-279-8083 to place your order. You can also use the COA website at sjccoa.com.
Stoll says they are disappointed that the COA can no longer offer group classes such as exercise or Bingo. However, Stoll says the numbers are alarming, and our seniors are most at risk for negative outcomes if they contract this virus. He says they continue to seek the advice and expertise of the State and local health departments to help them make these decisions.
Stoll says the COA staff is continuing to plan special events in December to keep connected to their members, especially those who are home bound. He also encourages seniors to check out the COA Facebook page where exercise videos are posted almost daily. If you are not on Facebook, the COA has a You Tube channel and that also has videos of exercise classes and crafts.
If you have any questions, please call the COA at 269-279-8083.
