Ohio Governor Announces His Law Enforcement Reform
By: Sheila McCrea - Thursday, June 18, 2020

COLUMBUS, OH - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced a plan that says all shootings by Ohio police officers and any deaths of individuals in custody would be investigated by independent agencies.

As part of the proposal, the State Highway Patrol, which is under DeWine’s direct supervision, will no longer investigate its own shootings. DeWine also wants lawmakers to create a law enforcement oversight and accountability board, similar to licensing boards for professionals like doctors and lawyers.

Governor DeWine says his plans are meaningful law enforcement reform for Ohio. He said, “Although most officers are good people who work hard to keep all Ohioans safe, we must acknowledge that there are some who shouldn't wear a badge”.
