Light snow and gusty winds may cause some havoc this morning across the tri-state region.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter weather advisory is in effect for the area through 7 P.M. this evening as light snow is expected to fall throughout the day with west winds from 15 to 20 mph expected, with gusts as high as 35 mph. While snow amounts may vary, road conditions will be a concern as some are already slick which may hamper New Years Eve plans for area residents.

When traveling today, motorists are advised to use extreme caution and to leave extra time when heading out, and to always be alert.

Snow chances will dissipate throughout the day, yielding to partly cloudy skies and periods of sunshine on New Years Day with high temperatures in the mid 30 degree range.
