Two Dead In Crash Sunday In Van Wert, Ohio

Two people are dead and one more seriously hurt after a crash in Van Wert, Ohio Sunday afternoon.

Police were called just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, and then responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Liberty Union Road at Van Wert Willshire Road.

The Van Wert County Sheriff's Department said Eric Mwaba, of Lexington, Kentucky, was driving a Ford Fusion, and reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign on Liberty Union Road. Mwaba's car then crashed into an eastbound SUV, driven by Cynthia Schumm of Van Wert.

Medics airlifted Mwaba to the hospital, but he later died from his injuries. A passenger in the Ford Fusion, Laetitia Tchamala, of Haltom City, Texas, also died from her injuries. Medics rushed Schumm to a local hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
