On a cloudy, cool Tuesday Morning various officials and local dignitaries were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony on the all new home for both the Steuben County Council on Aging Senior Community Center and STAR Transportation Services on the corner of West Harcourt Road and North Wohlert Street, Angola, on land donated by Chuck and Ruth Sheets.

The Ralph and Sheri Trine family is handling the construction of the building, and both were in attendance for the ceremony along with Angola Mayor, Richard Hickman who talked about the benefits the Senior Center brings to the community. The groundbreaking was originally scheduled for spring of 2020, but COA Executive Director Denise Kreais said in an e-mail that things are moving much quicker than expected.

Kreais spoke at the site stating that they are ahead of schedule already receiving donations of over $68,000 and gave praise to those who have been so generous. Kreais also gave praise to the employees and their hardwork and dedication in the process.

The facility will include offices, a well-appointed kitchen, hair salon, game room, shuffleboard, pool tables, exercise room, coffee bar, jukebox, library with computer lab and exercise room.

This will be the first new home for the COA since it moved in the Steuben Community Center back in 1993, when the building opened as a community center.

Seniors on site talked of the excitement they have for a new center as it will have expanded space for both programs to continue serving citizens around the county.
