The Dekalb County Commissioners voted on Monday to close a section of County Road 62 in an area southwest of Garrett. The closing affects a section of roadway one-quarter of a mile east of County Road 7, directly south of the business of Hixson Sand and Gravel.

The county will create a cul-de-sac to try to stop citizens from illegally dumping trash in the gravel pit which has been a growing concern among homeowners in the area who say that they support the road closure.

This closure will also give the business a chance to develop the property they purchased across the street. A start date on the construction has not yet been announced.
