The funeral for 8-year-old Melody Gangwer will be Saturday at 1 p-m at the First Church of God in LaGrange. Calling will be Friday from 2 to 8 p-m at the church.
A memorial fund is established at Horizon Bank in Lagrange and will be used to help others in the community with acts of kindness and to promote fire safety.
Melody died Friday evening in a house fire at her home in Topeka. She was a third grader at Topeka Elementary School. Her teacher, Kendra Helmkamp, said Melody had a sweet smile that would light up the room and never left school without a hug goodbye.
The school has counselors and area pastors on hand to help students and staff with the grieving process this week.
