The city of Auburn Water Department announced that they will be flushing all city-owned fire hydrants in cul-de-sacs and non-looped water mains beginning next week as part of maintenance to the equipment.
Hydrant flushing keeps the water mains clean and ensures the greatest quality of water throughout the entire system. Flushing also helps to ensure the fire hydrants are working properly for fire protection purposes.
This process may stir up mineral deposits in the water main, causing a discoloration of the water. This discoloration poses no threat to health and is safe to consume. If you notice discolored water in your home, run all cold water taps for 3-5 minutes or until the water clears before laundering whites.
The scheduled maintenance will be done Monday through Friday between 7:30 A.M. and 3 P.M. and will last throughout the month of November.
