The Trine University women's golf team finished as runners-up at the Duck Lake Invitational hosted by Albion (Mich.) College at Duck Lake Country Club in Albion, Mich.
Trine ended the day with a team score of 347 strokes to place second of five teams. Hope (Mich.) College was the overall team champion with 332 strokes and Grace College was third with 349 strokes.
Sophomore Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) had another strong tournament, leading the Thunder with an 18-hole score of 81 strokes and placed in a tie for third overall. Senior Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) finished in the top-10 with a round of 87 strokes which was good enough for sole possession of ninth place.
Freshman Lily Williamson (Colfax, Ind./Western Boone) had the third lowest total for Trine and placed just outside the top-10 in a tie for 11th place after firing a round of 89 strokes. Fellow freshman Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) was fourth on the team with a round of 90 strokes which was also good enough for 13th place.
Sophomore Becca Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) was the fifth Trine competitor to post a top-20 score with a round of 92 strokes and finished in a tie for 19th place.
In addition, Trine had another group of players compete as a "B" team and was led by freshman Reagan Guthrie (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa Area) who carded a round of 95 strokes and placed in a tie for 25th among the field. Senior Morgan Barrasas (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) finished seven shots back of Guthrie with 102 strokes and was followed by freshman Sophie Hollinger (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) who had the third-best score of 108 strokes.
Freshman Anabelle Burkholder (Lima, Ohio/Bath) rounded out the list of competitors with a single-round total of 113 strokes.
Trine will return to the course next Tuesday, Sept. 24 with the second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association event of the season in the MIAA Jamboree #2 hosted by Adrian (Mich.) College. The one-day tournament will be held at Lenawee Country Club at 1 p.m. in Adrian, Mich.
