Tuesday, July 23, 2019

Shortly after 1:30 P.M. Monday, Angola Fire Dept. was dispatched to 3121 W Shady Side Road in reference to a tree trimming bucket truck on fire. First units on the scene found that the truck came into contact with a 7,200 volts power line causing the arcing. In turn, the body and boom caught on fire. Due to the fire, the truck lost all hydraulic power causing the operator of the bucket to be trapped, approximately 55 feet in the air. He had to be rescued by the fire department by using a Fremont Fire Department ladder truck.

The operator had to crawl out of his bucket and onto the ladder. The fire burned through the hydraulic lines also causing a large hydraulic oil spill. He was treated on the scene by Steuben County EMS, but no serious injuries occurred at the scene.

Assisting at the scene were Fremont Fire Dept., Steuben County EMS, Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Angola City Police, Indiana DNR Law Enforcement, Fremont Town Marshal’s Office, Steuben County EMA, Angola Waste Water Dept., Bills Towing, NIPSCO and the Ashley-Hudson Fire Department stood by at Angola Fire Department.
